Brandon Cohen of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s St. Michael’s Buzzers has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division III Suny Oswego Lakers in Oswego, NY, beginning with the 2024-25 season.
Cohen signed with St. Michael’s in 2020 out of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U18 program.
He amassed 75 points (35 goals/40 assists) in 55 games this past season, his most productive in the OJHL. He added 10 more points in 11 playoff games.
“Brandon was this year’s captain and did an outstanding job,” St. Michael’s Head Coach and General Manager Rich Ricci told the OJHL. “He was great at being the glue of the team. A very good communicator that delivered the message on and off the ice.”
“Brandon has been with us since the (COVID-19) cancelled (2020-21) season. He has paid his dues. He put in the work, he matured and he was rewarded for it. It took a bit, but he became a sniper. He plays heavy and physical and has a pro release…. he blew pucks by goalies. I’m proud of his
commitment to become a better skater and a better defender. The offence is obvious, people don’t understand how good his defensive and PK instincts are. Oswego is getting another good one. We wish him the greatest success”
Cohen is happy to have picked the Buzzers to play for.
“Reflecting on my time with the St. Michael’s Buzzers has been nothing short of incredible,” Cohen told the OJHL. “From joining just before COVID disrupted everything to this moment of committing to Oswego, every step has been a testament to perseverance and passion.
“The Buzzers have been more than a team to me, they’ve been my second family. I’ve grown not only as a player but also as a person, thanks to the unwavering support of my coaches, teammates, and especially my family. Their encouragement and belief in me have been the fuel behind every success.
“Rich and Vic ( Criscuolo, the Buzzers assistant GM/coach) have played pivotal roles in my development, both on and off the ice, and I can’t thank the two of them enough for their guidance and mentorship.”
Cohen will join St. Mike’s linemate Marco Iozzo who committed to Oswego this spring.
“As I look forward to the next chapter at Oswego, I carry with me the lessons learned and memories made at St.
Mike’s,” Cohen said. “I’m eager to continue my hockey journey while pursuing a quality education, and I will always cherish my time with the Buzzers. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”
Congratulations to Brandon and best of luck in the NCAA!
