“We are really happy for Cam,” Buzzers Head Coach and General Manager Rich Ricci told the OJHL. “After a delayed start due to injury, Cam posted an 11-3-1 record and added six playoff games, posting a 3-1-1 record. He is a great kid and a very team-first guy.”

“I was impressed with his professionalism, especially in the way he approached his on and off-ice preparation. He grew into being a leader midway through the year and gave us a formidable pair of goaltenders.”

Smith played junior for the Uxbridge Bruins, his hometown Stouffville Spirit and the Elliot Lake Red Wings before signing with the Buzzers last summer.

“Playing for St. Mike’s this year was such an unbelievable experience. We had a great team and were a very tight group,” the 20-year-old told the OJHL. “Unfortunately, we fell short of our ultimate goal in the playoffs and lost to a very good Cobourg team in Game 7.”

“I can’t thank Rich Ricci enough for bringing me in and having trust in me. I also want to thank my teammates, especially my goalie partner Jacob Gorinsky, for always supporting me, especially after missing most of the first half of the season due to an injury.”

“Rich Ricci and Vic Criscoulo run an amazing program at St. Michael’s and having the opportunity to play for such a historic and successful franchise was a huge honour.”

His choice of colleges was easy, he said.

“As far as Curry goes I couldn’t be more excited to join that group,” Smith said. “When they offered me it was a no-brainer deciding to go there. Having an opportunity to win a national championship and working towards getting an education is something I am very much looking forward to. They have an unbelievable program and I am really happy to be apart of it.”

OJHL grads on Curry’s 2023-24 roster included Killian Rowlee (Lindsay), J.P. Moreira (Markham, Mississauga, Collingwood) and Cole Weinger (Oakville).
